Im curious about how Social Lending works.

Is there anyone who can give me some info on Social lending or P2P lending. Ive looked up a few online companies like prosper, Zopa, and lending club. If i understand it right when you are investing your investing in someones personal loans right? I have a little money that i am looking to invest. Does anyone know about the company Prosper. I see there ads on the internet all the time and they seem to be the most popular p2p lending facilitator, or maybe im just proving my naivete. Basically im looking for a for a save way to invest a little money and i dont want to have to stress too much about it or spend to much time managing whatever i do. Can anyone tell me if Social lending is the way to go? here is a link to prospers investment opportunity page, its the one ive looked at but im open to suggestions.
